140m Fincantieri1. Fincantieri 140m Ocean Victory
The largest superyacht launched in 2014 is the 140m Fincantieri superyacht. Signed in 2009, construction began the following year. Since then, remarkably little has been known about the colossal project until Ocean Victory was launched and delivery late this year. Even now only a handful of photos of the boat exist, but we’ve no reason to doubt Head of Fincantieri Yachts, Giovanni Romano, when he says Ocean Victory is “the highest result which shipbuilding and luxury technology have achieved”.
104m Lurssen Quantum Blue2. Lürssen 104m Quantum Blue
The new project was originally said to be 102.6 metres but at Quantum Blue’s launch in July, she came out at 104 metres, making her the second largest superyacht launched in 2014. The second largest launch this year is an eye-catching design by the UK’s Tim Heywood that mixes strong, masculine lines with four decks of the finest on-board living.
100.8m Kusch V8533. Kusch 100.8m V853
It was back in December 2012 that project V853′s hull was completed at the German Kusch yard. She emerged fully formed in November this year with dramatic lines, an ample beam of 16 metres, room for 22 guests, a crew of 29 and highly economical diesel-electric propulsion, becoming the third largest superyacht launched in 2014.
95.2m Lurssen4. Lürssen 95.2m Kismet
Built at Lürssen’s Rendsburg facility, Kismet features exterior styling by Espen Øino and interior design by Reymond Langton Design, featuring marble and rare woods. Her main saloon is vast, hosting overstuffed settees, a bar and a high-tech entertainment system. The formal dining room can seat up to 18 guests. She accommodates 12 guests in six staterooms, catered to by 20 crew members. Kismet became fourth on the list of the largest superyachts launched in 2014 – spanning over 95m – after her July launch.
92.5m Feadship5. Feadship 92.5m 1005
Details of Feadship hull 1005 are a closely guarded secret and photos only emerged thanks to the Feadship Fan Club on Facebook in October after her launch. The steel-and-aluminium hull is 92.5m long – making her the fifth largest superyacht launched in 2014 – and the boat has a gross tonnage exceeding 2,900 GT. Fourteen guests are looked after by 22 crew.
88.5m Oceanco Infinity6. Oceanco 88.50m Infinity
This stunning 88.5-metre steel-and-aluminium superyacht features exterior styling by Espen Øino and naval architecture by Azure Naval Architects. Infinity first arrived at the Oceanco yard in April 2013, but her delivery this year gives Infinity a spot in our list of the largest superyachts launched in 2014.
81.8m Abeking & Rasmussen Kibo7. Abeking & Rasmussen 81.8m Kibo
Terence Disdale designed this massive displacement boat in collaboration with the German yard’s in-house team and on Kibo‘s launch earlier this year, he advised fellow designers to “shy away from the wow factor” in favour of downright practicality. Admiring Kibo’s stunning lines and jaw-dropping interior, onlookers were somewhat confused. Measuring 81.8m, Kibo is the seventh largest superyacht launched in 2014.
73m CRN Yalla8. CRN 73m Yalla
The first yacht built by CRN on its new 12.5m beam platform, Yalla boasts sleek exterior styling from Omega Architects in The Netherlands, in collaboration with the CRN Engineering Department. The five-deck motor yacht is the product of the Ferretti Group’s custom yacht arm. Yalla was launched in May 2014 and is the eighth largest superyacht launched in 2014, with a 73m hull.
66.4m ISA Okto9. ISA 66.4m Okto
Okto’s black hull, silver superstructure and unusual lines certainly turned heads on her launch in August, but with a cruising speed of 16.5 knots, this 66.4m full displacement superyacht is a performer as well as a looker. She is the biggest ISA built to date and the ninth largest superyacht launched in 2014.
66m Lurssen Ester III10. Lürssen 66m Ester III
A distinctive white and grey paint job, as well as angular but handsome lines, were the headlines at Ester III’s launch over the summer.
